Last updated: 6 September 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use apply to your use of the Sickleverse online course website and any courses, educational materials, videos, downloads, live sessions or other digital content made available through it.

Sickleverse is operated by Dr Lewis Thomas.

By creating an account, purchasing a course or accessing Sickleverse course content, you agree to these Terms of Use.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not purchase or access the course content.

If you have any questions, you can contact:

[email protected]

2. About Sickleverse courses

Sickleverse provides educational content relating to sickle cell disease.

Courses may include:

The exact content included with a course will be described on the relevant sales or course page.

3. Educational and medical disclaimer

Sickleverse courses are provided for educational purposes only.

They are not intended to provide personalised medical advice, diagnosis or treatment and are not a substitute for care from your own doctor, haematology team or other qualified healthcare professional.

Although courses may discuss symptoms, complications, treatments and situations in which medical assessment may be necessary, you remain responsible for obtaining appropriate professional medical care for yourself or anyone in your care.

You should not delay seeking medical attention because of information contained within a Sickleverse course.

If you believe that you or someone you care for may be experiencing a medical emergency, seek appropriate emergency medical assistance.

Participation in a Sickleverse course, including asking questions during a course or live session, does not establish a doctor-patient relationship with Dr Lewis Thomas.

4. Course accounts

You may be required to create a Thinkific account to purchase or access a course.

You are responsible for:

Your course purchase is for your individual use unless otherwise expressly stated.

You must not share your login details to allow other people to access paid course content without purchasing their own access.

5. Course access

When you purchase a course, you receive a limited, personal, non-transferable right to access the course for your own educational use.

The period of access, where applicable, will be stated on the relevant sales or checkout page.

Unless expressly described as permanent or lifetime access, purchasing a course does not guarantee that the course or the Thinkific platform will remain available indefinitely.

We may make reasonable updates to course materials from time to time, including where medical guidance, evidence, resources or course content changes.

Where a significant change affects content that you have already purchased, we will take reasonable steps to avoid materially reducing the product you purchased.

6. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the Sickleverse courses and their contents are owned by or licensed to Dr Lewis Thomas.

This includes, where applicable:

Your purchase gives you permission to use these materials for your own personal educational purposes.

You must not, without prior written permission:

You may download resources specifically provided as downloadable materials and use them for your own personal purposes.

7. Payments

Prices will be displayed before you complete your purchase.

Payments may be processed through Thinkific Payments, Stripe or another authorised payment provider.

You are responsible for providing valid payment information and paying the price displayed at checkout.

Sickleverse does not normally receive or store your complete debit or credit card details.

Any taxes or other charges that are required to be added to your purchase will be displayed where applicable.

8. Refunds and cancellation rights

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these Terms affects any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

If you are purchasing as a UK consumer, digital content purchased online will normally be subject to consumer cancellation rights.

Where you expressly request that digital course content is supplied to you immediately during the 14-day cancellation period and acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel once the supply of that digital content begins, your statutory right to cancel may end once access to the digital content has been provided.

Where the legal requirements for the loss of that cancellation right have not been met, any statutory cancellation rights available to you will continue to apply.

Refunds after accessing digital content

Except where required by law, we do not normally provide refunds simply because you:

This does not affect your legal rights where digital content is faulty, not as described or otherwise does not meet the standards required by consumer law.

Problems accessing your course

If you have paid for a course but are unable to access it because of a technical or account problem, please contact us at [email protected] so that we can attempt to resolve the issue.

If we are unable to provide content that you have paid for, we will provide an appropriate remedy, which may include restoring access, replacement access or a refund where required.

9. Chargebacks and payment disputes

If you believe that you have been charged incorrectly or have a problem with a purchase, please contact us first at:

[email protected]

This gives us the opportunity to investigate and resolve the issue.

Nothing in this section prevents you from exercising any legal rights you have through your bank, card provider or payment service.

Where a payment dispute or chargeback is raised, we may provide relevant records to the payment provider as evidence of the transaction. These may include purchase records, confirmation of your acceptance of these Terms, account access records, course activity and relevant communications.

10. Live sessions and questions

Some courses may include access to live educational sessions or opportunities to submit questions.

These are intended to provide general education and clarification of course material.

They are not consultations and should not be used as a substitute for personalised medical assessment.

We may decline to answer questions that:

If you participate in a group session, you should avoid sharing personal information about yourself or another person that you would not want other participants to hear.

11. Appropriate use

You agree not to use the Sickleverse course platform:

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access where there is a serious or repeated breach of these Terms.

Where you have purchased course access, we will act reasonably when exercising this right and this section does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

12. Third-party services

Sickleverse uses third-party services to provide parts of the course experience, including Thinkific and payment processing providers.

Courses may also contain links to external websites, research, videos or other third-party resources.

We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their availability, content, privacy practices or terms.

The inclusion of a link does not necessarily mean that Sickleverse endorses everything published by that third party.

13. Course availability and technical interruptions

We aim to keep purchased course content reasonably available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access at all times.

Access may occasionally be affected by:

Where possible, we will take reasonable steps to restore access or work with the relevant provider to resolve significant problems.

14. Accuracy and updates

We aim to ensure that Sickleverse educational material is accurate and evidence-based at the time it is produced.

However, medical knowledge, clinical guidance and available treatments can change.

We may therefore update, correct or replace course content where appropriate.

You should always follow current advice from your own healthcare professionals when making decisions about medical care.

15. Results and outcomes

Sickleverse courses are designed to improve understanding and confidence around sickle cell education.

We do not guarantee any particular medical, personal or other outcome from completing a course.

Individual circumstances vary, and the effectiveness of applying educational information will depend on many factors outside our control.

16. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Subject to your statutory consumer rights, Sickleverse is not responsible for losses arising from:

Nothing in these Terms removes any rights or remedies you have under UK consumer law.

17. Privacy

Your use of the Sickleverse course website is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how it is used, who it may be shared with and your data protection rights.

Our separate Cookie Policy provides further information about cookies and similar technologies.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect:

The latest version will be available on the Sickleverse course website.

Any changes will not remove rights you have already acquired in relation to a purchase.

19. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom or another country, you may also benefit from mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to prevent you from relying on those protections.
